The Ganado Hornets will head out on the road to face off against the Alchesay Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Ganado has four straight victories, the Falcons have six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Even though Ganado has not done well against the Sand Devils recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Ganado managed a 55-51 victory over the Sand Devils. The victory was all the more spectacular given Ganado's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while the Sand Devils are ranked 132nd).
Meanwhile, Alchesay was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 59-54 to the Mustangs. Alchesay has struggled against the Mustangs recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Brent Aday, who scored 15 points. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Texas James, who scored 13 points.
Ganado's victory bumped their record up to 8-13. As for Alchesay, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-17.
Ganado came up short against the Falcons in their previous matchup back in January, falling 62-54. Can Ganado avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
