Last Monday, Great Mills strolled past Oakland Mills with points to spare, taking the game 60-44. Given Great Mills' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 54th, while Oakland Mills is ranked 254th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
DeAndre Dorsey was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with seven assists and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Brooks, who scored six points along with 15 rebounds and eight blocks.
Meanwhile, Northern had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They enjoyed a cozy 67-51 win over Calvert.
Emmanuel Powell continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 25 points along with four steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Zach Miskell, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Great Mills' victory bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Northern, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Great Mills was able to grind out a solid victory over Northern in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 55-47. Does Great Mills have another victory up their sleeve, or will Northern turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
