The Clay County Panthers waltzed into Friday's matchup with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Braxton County 49-6 at home. Clay County might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won seven games by 22 points or more this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Clay County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Josh Beard, who picked up 31 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Ayden Brown, who gained 164 total yards and three touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Braxton County to a paltry 95 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Clay County's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out eight times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Micah Osborne and Seth Robinson who racked up six sacks between them.
Clay County's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Grafton and 1-9 Braxton County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 10.3% over those games). As for Braxton County, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.
Clay County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Braxton County also has no future games currently scheduled.
