The Douglas Tigers were the 62-53 winner over the Spanish Springs Cougars when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Douglas received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 56-38 to the Cougars.
When it comes to explaining why Douglas lost, one person who can't be blamed is Trace Estes. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jett Lehmann, who scored 12 points.
Spanish Springs' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josiah McBride, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McBride has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Cameron Washington, who scored eight points along with five steals.
Douglas has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season. As for Spanish Springs, they pushed their record up to 12-11 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home.
Douglas will take on the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Damonte Ranch presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Tigers in Nevada (the Mustangs are ranked seventh, while the Tigers are ranked 43rd). As for Spanish Springs, they will head out on the road to face off against the Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. McQueen is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
