Basketball Recap: Sophia Schukei Key Part of a Team Effort in Blue Devils Win

Kenesaw hadn't done well against Pleasanton recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Kenesaw Blue Devils enjoyed a cozy 56-37 victory over the Pleasanton Bulldogs. For the Blue Devils, this counts as revenge for the 51-20 win the Bulldogs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Kenesaw's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sophia Schukei, who went 7 of 14 on her way to 15 points and five rebounds. Those 15 points gave Schukei a new career-high. Elise Schukei was another key player, going 5 for 9 en route to 10 points.

Kenesaw was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tenley Flood, who posted ten points and eight boards. Another player making a difference was Emme Westland, who had seven points.

Kenesaw has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.7 points per game. As for Pleasanton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kenesaw will square off against Deshler on Thursday. As for Pleasanton, they will face off against Fullerton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
