The ALA - Ironwood Warriors will challenge the Benjamin Franklin Chargers at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
ALA - Ironwood fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Apache Junction on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Prospectors by a score of 4-3. That's two games in a row now that the Warriors have lost by just one run.
ALA - Ironwood saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Watson, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. Another was Dennis Ricci, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Benjamin Franklin had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They never let the Sabercats get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. With that victory, the Chargers brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Paolo Baca made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Benjamin Franklin is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-9-1 otherwise. Baca was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Benjamin Franklin got a massive performance out of Matthew Economou, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave Economou a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Darren Billingsley, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Benjamin Franklin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in six consecutive contests.
ALA - Ironwood has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season. As for Benjamin Franklin, their win bumped their record up to 11-9-1.
