The Avon Park Red Devils will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the DeSoto County Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Avon Park was fully in charge, breezing past Frostproof 45-10 at home. The victory was just what Avon Park needed coming off of a 54-34 loss in their prior game.
Avon Park found their leader in underclassman Tytianna Allen, who scored 24 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Allen has scored at least 25% of Avon Park's points. Keivelisse Soto was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Meanwhile, DeSoto County waltzed into Tuesday's match with two straight wins but they left with three. They snuck past Sebring with a 34-30 win.
DeSoto County found their leader in underclassman Cherish Wiggins, who dropped a triple-double on 12 points, 13 rebounds, and 12 steals. The match was Wiggins' third in a row with at least ten points.
The losses dropped Avon Park to 1-2 and Frostproof to 0-4.
Thursday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Avon Park haven't given up the ball easily this season, having only averaged 0 turnovers per game. It's a different story for DeSoto County, though, as they've been averaging 20.7 per game. Given Avon Park's sizeable advantage in that area, DeSoto County will need to find a way to close that gap.
