Baseball Recap: Sand Creek Wins Going Away Against Mitchell

Sand Creek won the last time they faced Mitchell and things went their way on Thursday too. The Scorpions blew past the Marauders 15-3. The Scorpions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by seven runs or more this season.

Jackson Lucero was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Sand Creek is undefeated when Lucero allows one or fewer hits, but 9-10 otherwise. Lucero was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Hayden Garcia was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Sand Creek: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Avyn Walter, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Sand Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .542. They are 7-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Sand Creek and bumps their season record up to 12-10. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Mitchell, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-17.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sand Creek will face off against Pueblo Centennial at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mitchell, they will head out to square off against Bennett at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
