Basketball Recap: Magdalena Skates Past Quemado with Ease

There's no place like home for Magdalena, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat the Quemado Eagles 71-17. The Steers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Magdalena had a senior duo take command as Joseph Zamora went 9-for-14 to rack up 20 points and five steals and Ayden Herschbach went 7-for-9 en route to 20 points and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Herschbach has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeffrey Stuteville, who posted eight points along with six steals and five boards.

Magdalena's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 19.9 points over those games. As for Quemado, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season.

Magdalena didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 84-16 win against Reserve on the 18th. As for Quemado, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Animas at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Quemado is facing Animas at the right time seeing as Animas is stuck on a 21-game losing streak.
