The Marshwood Hawks will take on the Westbrook Blue Blazes at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Marshwood has given up an average of 10.5 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Marshwood came up short against Gorham on Friday, falling 13-3. The Hawks haven't had much luck with the Rams recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Marshwood saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Laurali Shisler, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Dorthy Ryan was another, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Westbrook got themselves on the board against Noble on Friday, but Noble never followed suit. They blew past the Knights 15-0. That looming 15-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Blue Blazes yet this season.
Madison Ross was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Ross was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Emma Boulette was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ava Anderson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
Westbrook was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The win made it two in a row for Westbrook and bumps their season record up to 5-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Marshwood, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
Marshwood's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Hawks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Westbrook, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Marshwood continue to outrun the ball?
Marshwood might still be hurting after the 13-4 defeat they got from Westbrook when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Hawks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
