Softball Recap: Mathews Wins Going Away Against Lafayette

Mathews had lost three games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 2-4 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They blew past the Lafayette Rams 27-16. The Blue Devils' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.

As for Lafayette, they dropped their record down to 0-10 with the defeat, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (ten), they still had to take the loss.

For Lafayette's part, Makayla Brooks stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she got on base in five of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlin Johnson, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Coming up, Mathews will head out to face off against Charles City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lafayette, they will welcome Bruton at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rams are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
