The Hunter Wolverines lost against the Cottonwood Colts back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Hunter fell to Cottonwood 43-37. Hunter has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Hunter had strong showings from Grace Gallagher, who scored nine points along with 15 rebounds and four steals, and Kalysa Ng, who scored 19 points along with five steals. Ng scored a full 51.4% of Hunter's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Naia Makakona, who scored six points.
Cottonwood found their leader in underclassman Carley Caton, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. The contest was Caton's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Avea van der Beek, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Hunter now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Cottonwood, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hunter will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Judge Memorial Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Cottonwood is on the road again on Wednesday and play against Jordan at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th. Jordan is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
