III Section I recap October 29, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in III Section I this week, Peoria beat Sunrise Mountain 23-21. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
Greenway took down Dysart 43-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Kade Greenhalgh threw for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 24 yards in the win.
Chase Cord was a passing and rushing force as the Mustangs fell to Peoria. He completed 11 passes for 140 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 59 yards. Cord's favorite target this week was Marcus Coffey, who caught 4 passes for 62 yards.
Kyle Contreras made the biggest impact on defense this week as Sunrise Mountain lost to Will Babb's team. The 6-foot-1 defensive end racked up 1 sack.
Coffey was the best wideout in the league this week as James Carter's team lost to the Panthers. Coffey racked up 4 receptions for 62 yards. Corey Brown helped Sunrise Mountain's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 36 yards.
6-foot-1 quarterback Greenhalgh of the Demons is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,358. He has also thrown 18 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Darius Aguirre. The Peoria star has 44 catches for 922 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Peoria takes on second place Cactus. Peoria bested the Mustangs last week, while Cactus topped Goldwater.
The Cobras' offense has racked up 322 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Panthers have allowed only 79 on the year.
Peoria's Aguirre needs only 78 receiving yards against Cactus to crack 1,000 for the season. So far this year, he has acheived 44 catches for 922 yards.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Panthers' Aguirre goes up against Larry Fetkenhier's team's Cj Buze.
There should be lots of points scored when Peoria and the Cobras face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Panthers comes in having scored 316 this season, while Cactus has scored 322. Peoria scored 23 points last week as it beat Sunrise Mountain.
The Panthers and the Mustangs played the most contested game in III Section I this week, with the Panthers eventually emerging with a 23-21 victory. Dillon Gragnano threw for 112 yards and 2 touchdowns during the win.
