The Providence School Stallions will square off against the Baker County Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Providence School has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight defeats, while Baker County will come in with seven straight wins.
Things were looking good for Providence School after they put the first points on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Middleburg, falling 18-5.
Summer Stearns was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kayleigh Cardona, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Baker County's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They never let Fort White get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory.
Not much got past Grace Masterson, who gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks to keep Fort White off the board. Masterson has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Baker County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylee Walker, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Walker has posted since back in March of 2024. Aubrey Worthington also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Providence School's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Baker County, they pushed their record up to 7-0-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Providence School has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Baker County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
