Softball Recap: Taft Gets the Win

While Taft's victory against Odem wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Taft came out on top in a nail-biter against Odem on Tuesday, sneaking past 10-9. The win continues a trend for the Greyhounds in their matchups with the Owls: they've now won five in a row.

Josette Aparicio made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Jewelysa Garcia was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Daviana Mendez was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Taft pushed their record up to 13-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Odem, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-13.

Taft wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 4-2 defeat against Mathis on the 28th. As for Odem, they have also already played their next matchup, a 4-0 victory against George West on the 28th.
