The Buena Park Coyotes will head out to challenge the Katella Knights at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Katella will be up against a hot Buena Park team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. The Coyotes blew past Calvary Chapel 11-1 on Wednesday. That's two games straight that the Coyotes have won by exactly ten runs.
Mia Gonzalez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double.
In other batting news, Layla Hinojos and Leanne Overly did most of the damage at the plate: Hinojos went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Overly went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Overly has posted since back in February. Emma Cazares was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Buena Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are 8-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Katella). They were the clear victors by a 25-6 margin over Laguna Hills on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.
Buena Park's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Katella, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.
Everything went Buena Park's way against Katella in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as Buena Park made off with a 6-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Coyotes since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
