Basketball Recap: Woodlan's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

Woodlan and Fort Wayne Bishop Luers squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Woodlan had to settle for second. They lost 73-47 to the Fort Wayne Bishop Luers Knights. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while the Knights are ranked 42nd).

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Trey Yoder, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 36.2% of Woodlan's points, marking the fourth time in a row Yoder has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Oliver Adams, who went 5-for-12 on his way to 10 points and five boards.

Fort Wayne Bishop Luers got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Drelyn Truesdale out in front who shot 55% from the field to rack up 14 points along with six assists and six rebounds. Danny Kelly was another key player, going 6-for-15 en route to 19 points and five steals.

With the loss, Woodlan broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 18-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points over those games. As for Fort Wayne Bishop Luers, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season.

Woodlan does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Fort Wayne Bishop Luers, they will face off against 21st Century Charter at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
