The Lakewood Gators waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They put the hurt on Marlboro County with a sharp 52-28 win. Given Lakewood's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while Marlboro County is ranked 224th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lakewood to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zakiya Hodge, who scored 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauryn Nesmith, who scored 12 points.
Marlboro County lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jordyn Zimmerman, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Zimmerman hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Shakera Wilson was another key contributor, scoring three points along with three steals.
Lakewood's win bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Marlboro County, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-15.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Crestwood the next time they take the court. Marlboro County will host Crestwood at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Lakewood will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
