Softball Recap: Friday's Win Is Arroyo's Fourth in Last Five Outings

Arroyo barely beat Mountain View the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Knights' pitcher stepped up to hand the Vikings a 9-0 shutout on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won ten matches by eight runs or more so far this season.

Emily Rubalcava made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting two hits.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hailie Espinoza, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Ruby Morales was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple.

Arroyo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.

Arroyo is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-9-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Mountain View, they dropped their record down to 8-11 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Arroyo will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Rosemead at 3:30 p.m. on the 28th. Mountain View also won't see the field for a while: their next matchup is against South El Monte at 3:30 p.m. on the 28th. The Eagles will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight.
