Luverne is 4-0 against McKenzie since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Luverne Tigers will be playing at home against the McKenzie Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Luverne will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Last Saturday, Luverne earned a 47-40 win over Paxton. Given Luverne's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 141st in Alabama, while Paxton is ranked 313th in Florida), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, McKenzie fought the good fight in their overtime match against Straughn on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 52-43 to the Tigers. McKenzie has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jaylen Mcmillian, who scored 11 points along with 6 rebounds. He scored a full 25.6% of McKenzie's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jay Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Their wins bumped Luverne to 3-1 and Paxton to 4-2.
Luverne skirted past McKenzie 63-60 in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Will Luverne repeat their success, or does McKenzie have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
