Southern Lee led 3A Cape Fear Valley in scoring this week after putting up 63 points on Union Pines.
The Cavaliers made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,847 from 11,105. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 63-55 victory over the Vikings last week.
Overhills's dynamic duo of Danny Karrs and Donald Alexander proved tough for Westover to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Karrs threw for 80 yards and two touchdowns and Alexander had 52 yards receiving. Chanler Renna helped Overhills' passing attack out by catching one ball for 18 yards.
Ken McDowell was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 161 yards on 19 carries as Grays Creek topped the Wolverines. Teammate Dion Rackley added to the ground attack by rushing for 78 yards.
Westover's Henry Howard III and Kendall Lindsey have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Howard III has thrown for 1086 yards this season, while Lindsey, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 19 catches for 334 yards. The Bears' McDowell leads the league in rushing yards with 1910.
Douglas Byrd's Garry Lewis is a mere 23 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. Lewis has rushed for 977 yards on 161 carries so far this year.
A big matchup in 3A Cape Fear Valley this week will be when Grays Creek takes on Greg Bryant's team. David Lovette's team is currently in first, while the Wolverines are in fourth.
