The Blackville-Hilda Fighting Hawks fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Williston-Elko Blue Devils on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Blue Devils by a score of 71-68. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Blackville-Hilda's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jaquel Holman, who scored 27 points along with two steals, and Messiah Mcfadden who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Mcfadden continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Arkel Thomas was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three steals.
Blackville-Hilda has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Williston-Elko, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Blackville-Hilda will take on the Saints at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Williston-Elko, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Vikings at 8:00 p.m. on January 31st.
