The Chiles Timberwolves will head out on the road to square off against the Lincoln Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Chiles is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They put the hurt on Gulf Breeze with a sharp 9-2 victory. Considering the Timberwolves have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Bradford Ray looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).
At the plate, Tyler Correa was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jack Neely, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Lincoln had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They never let the Sharks get on the board and left with a 7-0 win.
TJ Harley made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucas Cannady, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Tyler Anderson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Lincoln always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ponte Vedra only posted an OBP of .241.
Lincoln's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Chiles, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-12.
Chiles skirted past Lincoln 3-2 when the teams last played on April 1st. Will the Timberwolves repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
