There's no place like home for the Mt. Vernon Rams, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Saturday. They managed a 43-38 win over Centralia on Friday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Mt. Vernon's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while Centralia is ranked second).
Navontae D nesbit jr. continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 22 points along with two steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Mt. Vernon's points. The team also got some help courtesy of David Barnes, who scored ten points.
Mt. Vernon pushed their record up to 14-5 with that win, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.2 points per game. As for Centralia, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 18-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Herrin at 7:30 p.m. on January 13th. Herrin will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak. Centralia won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Sumner at 5:15 p.m. on January 13th. Sumner comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
