The Everett Warriors will head out to square off against the Berlin Brothersvalley Mountaineers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Everett sitting on five straight wins and Berlin Brothersvalley on three.
Everett had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Forbes Road on Wednesday. The Warriors put the hurt on Forbes Road with a sharp 16-1 victory. Considering the Warriors have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Meanwhile, Berlin Brothersvalley made easy work of Windber on Thursday and carried off a 7-1 win. The Mountaineers are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the fourth game they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Elena Ritchey and Sam Walker made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Ritchey pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Walker struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Ritchey has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Ritchey went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Walker went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Coral Prosser, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
Berlin Brothersvalley pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Everett, their record is now 9-2.
Everett couldn't quite get it done against Berlin Brothersvalley when the teams last played back in March as they fell 13-8. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
