Last Friday, it was a hard-fought match, but Mammoth had to settle for a 50-47 defeat against Kern Valley. Mammoth has struggled against Kern Valley recently, as their matchup on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Bishop Union has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 20 points or more this season. They put the hurt on Kern Valley with a sharp 60-40 victory on Tuesday. Given Bishop Union's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 578th, while Kern Valley is ranked 1165th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mammoth has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season. As for Bishop Union, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.
Mammoth might still be hurting after the 65-45 defeat they got from Bishop Union when the teams last played back in January. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Mammoth was down 38-15.
