Leila Kennach made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kiley Sledge, who went 2-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Laneigha Garcia was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two doubles.
Meanwhile, Orting entered their tilt with Eatonville on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Cruisers by a score of 15-10.
Like Franklin Pierce, Orting also got a great game from a two-way player: Kathryn Prest. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and seven unearned) runs off 13 hits. Prest was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Madalynn Halte was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Katie Arnett also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Orting kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Franklin Pierce's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Orting, they now have a winning record of 9-8-1.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Franklin Pierce has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .520. However, it's not like Orting struggles in that department as they've averaged .530. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Franklin Pierce came out on top in a nail-biter against Orting in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for Franklin Pierce since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
