The Bridgeport Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Shadyside Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bridgeport will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Bridgeport will bounce into Wednesday's contest after beating Toronto, who they had gone 0-4 against in their four prior meetings. The Bulldogs skirted past the Red Knights 8-6. While the Bulldogs didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Hanna Brewer and Vanessa Mullen made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Brewer struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits. Meanwhile, Mullen tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Brewer scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Mullen scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rowyn Herman, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. She also put up three RBI, which were her first of the season.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Shadyside's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They lost 14-5 to Bellaire.
Josey Greenwood made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Bridgeport's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Shadyside, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
Shadyside's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bridgeport hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. It's a different story for Shadyside, though, as they've only averaged .212. Will they be able to contain Bridgeport's hitters?
Bridgeport skirted past Shadyside 4-2 in their previous meeting last Monday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
