Polk County is a perfect 10-0 against Mitchell since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wolverines will look to defend their home field against the Mountaineers at 4:30 p.m. Polk County has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with 14 straight defeats, while Mitchell will come in with five straight victories.
Polk County came up short against Owen on Friday, falling 20-2.
Polk County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucy Tessnair, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mitchell). Everything went their way against Hendersonville on Friday as they made off with a 29-17 win. While the Mountaineers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Brianna Nutter looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Mitchell got a massive performance out of Gracie English, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. English has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Cayma Farley, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with five runs, three RBI, and one triple.
Mitchell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2025.
Polk County's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Mitchell, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
Polk County got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April of 2021 against Mitchell by a conclusive 12-3 score. Do the Wolverines have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mountaineers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
