The Sandy Creek Cougars will challenge the Southern Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sandy Creek has five straight wins, Southern has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Sandy Creek is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Exeter-Milligan/Friend: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Cougars blew the Bobcats out of the water with a 63-12 final score. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by 23 points or more this season.

Kam Sealey had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 150 yards and four touchdowns on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 187 yards and a pair of TDs. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 138 rushing yards. Logan Tomky was another key player, picking up 91 receiving yards and one score.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Sandy Creek was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 238 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 161 rushing yards in five consecutive games.
Special teams also played a big role in the game for Sandy Creek, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Alex Watts, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Southern's offense. They had to suffer through a 74-0 loss at the hands of Sutton. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 113th, while the Mustangs are ranked 33rd).
Southern's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Sandy Creek, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Friday's contest might be decided in the trenches. Sandy Creek has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 219.1 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Southern, though, as they've been averaging only 76.1 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for Sandy Creek against Southern in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 57-8 win. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
