The Owensboro Catholic Aces will face off against the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Owensboro Catholic has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with four straight losses, while Madisonville-North Hopkins will come in with three straight victories.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Owensboro Catholic's offense. They came up short against Daviess County on Tuesday, falling 15-0.
Meanwhile, Madisonville-North Hopkins made easy work of Ohio County on Saturday and carried off a 12-2 win. Considering the Maroons have won six games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Mackenzie Stoltz made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Stoltz was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Sydney Skeen was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Sophie Frailley was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.
Madisonville-North Hopkins always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ohio County only posted an OBP of .200.
Madisonville-North Hopkins' victory bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Owensboro Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Owensboro Catholic hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Madisonville-North Hopkins struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Owensboro Catholic was able to grind out a solid win over Madisonville-North Hopkins in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 7-2. Do the Aces have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Maroons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
