Central Bucks South has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Downingtown West Whippets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The pair have allowed few points on average, (Central Bucks South: 13.2, Downingtown West: 14.3) so any points scored will be well earned.
With a playoff game on the line, Central Bucks South rose to the challenge on Friday. They claimed a resounding 42-14 win over the Bucks on the road. Considering Central Bucks South has won seven contests by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Anthony Leonardi was his usual excellent self, rushing for 283 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.9 yards per carry. Leonardi was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 53 yards. Corey Moore was another key contributor, rushing for 91 yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Downingtown West faced Downingtown East in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Downingtown West narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Downingtown East 17-14. The victory was familiar territory for Downingtown West who now have three in a row.
Downingtown West's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Quinn Henicle, who punched in a rushing scores, and also threw for 185 yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Central Bucks South to 12-1 and Central Bucks West to 12-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Central Bucks South has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 300.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Downingtown West struggles in that department as they've been averaging 153.9 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Central Bucks South might still be hurting after the 34-13 loss they got from Downingtown West in their previous matchup back in August of 2019. Can Central Bucks South avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
