The Springfield Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Columbia Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Springfield saw some tournament action on Wednesday. They blew past Waterloo 11-4.
Sophia Greathouse spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Gina Romeo was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Giuliana Battaglini was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run and three RBI.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Springfield lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Columbia gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Firelands with a sharp 12-3 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Raiders.
Columbia also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Alina Jones gave up three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks.
On the hitting side, Columbia got a massive performance out of Grace Anderson, who went 3-for-5 with one home run and five RBI. Another player making a difference was Kenzie Shackelton, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Springfield's record now sits at 12-9. As for Columbia, their record is now 13-6.
