The Salpointe Catholic Lancers came tearing into Wednesday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Sahuaro and snuck past 61-59. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Logan Martinez continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 17 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Bobby Smith, who scored 14 points.
Sahuaro lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Cisco Llamas, who scored 24 points along with five assists and three steals. Llamas is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Nick Ponds, who scored 14 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Salpointe Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. As for Sahuaro, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-3.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Mica Mountain the next time they take the court. Salpointe Catholic will head out to face the Thunderbolts at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Cougars will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
