Having just played yesterday, the Sylva Bay Academy Saints will jump right back in to play the Laurel Christian Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Sylva Bay Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday.
Sylva Bay Academy and Hillcrest Christian squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly Sylva Bay Academy had to settle for second. They were the victim of a tough 55-30 loss at the hands of the Cougars. Sylva Bay Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-10.
Despite their defeat, Sylva Bay Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Brody Boyd, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Jabari Jones was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Meanwhile, Laurel Christian was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 46-42 to Lamar Christian. While losing is never fun, Laurel Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 281st, while Lamar Christian is ranked 111th).
Sylva Bay Academy's record is now 18-7. Laurel Christian's record is now 9-16.
Sylva Bay Academy strolled past Laurel Christian when the teams last played last Thursday by a score of 45-31. Will Sylva Bay Academy repeat their success, or does Laurel Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
