The Greenfield-Central Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pendleton Heights Arabians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Greenfield-Central had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past New Castle 44-20. With Greenfield-Central ahead 34-14 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Dallas Freeman had a dynamite game for Greenfield-Central, rushing for 134 yards and a touchdown on only five carries, while also throwing for 154 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. Freeman was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 67 yards. Another player making a difference was Kirk Knecht, who picked up 58 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Pendleton Heights had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They put the hurt on Shelbyville with a sharp 28-7 victory. Given Pendleton Heights' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Shelbyville is ranked 137th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Isaac Wilson was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 35 yards and two touchdowns. Drake Stevens got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Greenfield-Central to 8-1 and Pendleton Heights to 7-2.
Greenfield-Central didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Pendleton Heights in their previous meeting back in September, but they still walked away with a 43-38 win. Will Greenfield-Central repeat their success, or does Pendleton Heights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
