Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Lafourche). They came out on top in a nail-biter against the A.J. Ellender Patriots on Tuesday, sneaking past 17-16. The high-scoring effort was just what the Tarpons needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Talon Cheramie made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
In other batting news, South Lafourche got a massive performance out of Jenica Waguespack, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Waguespack has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Jana Bernard, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.
South Lafourche always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
South Lafourche's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-12. As for A.J. Ellender, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-7.
Looking ahead, South Lafourche will challenge John Ehret at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for A.J. Ellender, they will take on Assumption at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
