The South Eugene Axe were the 69-66 winner over the Thurston Colts when they last played one another back in January of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. South Eugene fell just short of Thurston by a score of 53-50.
Despite the loss, South Eugene still got an impressive performance from Landyn Bryant, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Bryant also grabbed two+ steals for the first time this season. Levi Hawes was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds.
South Eugene struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
South Eugene's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Thurston, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Eugene will challenge Southridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southridge presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than South Eugene in Oregon (Southridge is ranked 16th, while South Eugene is ranked 109th). As for Thurston, they will head out on the road to face off against Mountain View at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
