Westover's Marquis Hall rumbled for the longest rushing play in 3A Cape Fear Valley this season in his game against Union Pines last week. Hall ran for 61 yards on the play and finished with 119 on the day as his team beat the Vikings.
Westover's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Henry Howard III threw for 179 yards and Deonte Richardson had 61 yards receiving. Hall helped Westover's passing attack out by catching one ball for 45 yards.
Greg Bryant's team's Howard III and Kendall Lindsey have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Howard III has thrown for 1013 yards this season, while Lindsey, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 15 catches for 284 yards. Ken McDowell from Grays Creek leads the league in rushing with 1749 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Bears take on Western Harnett. At the moment, Grays Creek is in first, while the Eagles are in fifth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Wolverines take on Overhills. Westover has allowed 162 points this season, while the Jaguars have given up 107. The Wolverines allowed 0 points last week as they topped Union Pines.
Overhills led 3A Cape Fear Valley in scoring this week after putting up 40 points on Southern Lee.
