The Poly Bears will face off against the Liberty Bison at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Poly's pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Liberty's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Poly had taken Valley View down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Thursday. The Bears took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. The Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Marley Audoma spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Katelyn Cortez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Liberty waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They beat the Lions by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-6.
Jennessy Lopez was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Solorio, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Liberty kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive games.
Liberty's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Poly, their loss dropped their record down to 14-5-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Poly hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Liberty struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.3 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
