Pantego Christian has enjoyed the comforts of home their last four games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Trinity Christian Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pantego Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 737th, while the Lions are ranked 39th).
Last Friday, Pantego Christian was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 54-49 to the Eagles.
Despite their loss, Pantego Christian saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Aj Brooks, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Brooks hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Tristan Brown, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, the Lions waltzed into their match on Saturday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 66-28 win over the Eagles. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 matches by 20 points or more this season.
Pantego Christian has not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-14 record this season. As for the Lions, they pushed their record up to 27-5 with that victory, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season.
Pantego Christian was taken down by the Lions 63-27 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Pantego Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
