The result came thanks to Noah Munoz's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up 12 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Evergreen Park secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Cadyn Kummer, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Argo came into Thursday's game having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lemont on Thursday, sneaking past 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Argonauts have posted since April 26th.
Matt Mateyack spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Argo is 6-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-18 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Valente Melero was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Evergreen Park pushed their record up to 24-9 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Argo, their win bumped their record up to 12-20.
Argo's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Evergreen Park hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. It's a different story for Argo, though, as they've only averaged .234. Will they be able to contain Evergreen Park's hitters?
Evergreen Park came out on top in a nail-biter against Argo in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 9-7. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Argonauts turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
