The East Webster Wolverines will head out on the road to face off against the Nettleton Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. East Webster has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 127 points over their last three contests.
East Webster can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 42-14 win over Mooreville. 42 seems to be a good number for East Webster as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Briceton Johnson was his usual excellent self, rushing for 97 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. East Webster also got a significant boost from R T Moye, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 110 yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Mooreville to a paltry 188 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to East Webster's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Montavis Moore and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Nettleton unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They lost to Choctaw County on the road by a decisive 39-20 margin.
Nettleton's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Brayden Hooks, who gained 89 total yards and two touchdowns, and Braylen Williams who rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown.
East Webster's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 29 points. As for Nettleton, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2.
Thursday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. East Webster has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 239.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Nettleton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 176.9 per game. It's looking like Thursday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
East Webster took their victory against Nettleton when the teams last played back in September of 2014 by a conclusive 28-7. Does East Webster have another victory up their sleeve, or will Nettleton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
