Oklahoma Player of the Year
Alyssia Brewer, Sapulpa, 6-3, Senior (signed with Tennessee)
22.3 points, 15.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 2.9 blocks
2008 MaxPreps Second Team All-American, McDonald’s All-American Game, WBCA All-American Game, 2008 Gatorade Player of the Year, The Oklahoman State Player of the Year, Tulsa World Player of the Year
Brewer is one of the best girls’ basketball players to ever play in the state of Oklahoma. The 6-foot-3 senior averaged 22.3 points, 15.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 2.9 blocked shots per game. Brewer, a participant in the McDonald’s All-American game and a MaxPreps Second Team All-American, is the first Oklahoman to accept a scholarship offer to the University of Tennessee.
Brewer led Sapulpa to the Class 6A state championship as a junior. Sapulpa lost only one game to in-state competition all season long during her senior campaign, which was in the state final to Tulsa Union. Brewer led Sapulpa to a 27-2 record with its other loss coming in the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix, Ariz.
First Team All-State
Angel Goodrich, Sequoyah-Tahlequah, 5-6, Senior (signed with Kansas)
14.6 points, 6.8 assists, 5.4 steals
WBCA All-American Game
Goodrich is the ultimate team player, averaging 14.6 points, 6.8 assists, and 5.4 steals per game for Sequoyah-Tahlequah. In December, this small school from Oklahoma mixed it up with some of the best teams the nation has to offer in the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix, Ariz. Goodrich and the Lady Indians proved they belonged with the upper echelon competition, compiling a 3-1 record.
Sequoyah-Tahlequah was hoping to become the first girls’ basketball team in Oklahoma history to win four straight state titles. But its hopes were dashed in the Class 3A state final with a loss to Millwood. Goodrich scored 2,115 points in her career, which is 18th in Oklahoma history. Goodrich has signed a national letter of intent to attend Kansas, choosing the Jayhawks over Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
Lindsay Palmer, Tulsa Union, 5-11, Senior (signed with Baylor)
15.3 points, 6.3 assists, 5.8 rebounds
With Brewer and Sapulpa the favorite to repeat heading into the 2007-08 campaign, not many gave anybody else much credit. Palmer and Tulsa Union took advantage of being tagged as the underdog, playing with a chip on its shoulder en route to an unbeaten record and the Class 6A state championship with a 49-48 victory over the favorites.
The Baylor-bound Palmer carried the Lady Redskins on her back, averaging 15.3 points, 6.3 assists, and 5.8 rebounds. Palmer scored 1,827 points in her illustrious career at Union.
Cassie Clarke, Verdigris, 5-11, junior
23.0 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists
There is more than one Clarke that can score in bunches. The sister of newly crowned all-time leading scorer Rotnei can fill it up, too. Cassie averaged 23 points per game and ripped down over 10 rebounds per contest for the Lady Cardinals as a junior.
Clarke has scored 1,743 points in her career thus far. Clarke has led Verdigris to the state tournament in all three of her varsity seasons, making the state final as a freshman. Clarke has one more year to do more damage in the Verdigris record books before moving onto a sure-fire Division I offer.
Autumn Klugh, Fort Cobb-Broxton, 5-5, Senior
21.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 92 three-point baskets, 2,318 career points (11th in Oklahoma history)
Klugh led Fort Cobb-Broxton to one of the biggest upsets in girls' state tournament history in Oklahoma in the Class A semifinals as she led her team over heavily-favored Preston. Klugh’s dreams of lifting the gold ball were ended the following day in the state title game against Howe, but Klugh left her career as one of the most statistically impressive players in state history.
Klugh scored 2,318 career points, 11th in state history. The 5-5 senior averaged 21.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists and canned 92 three-point buckets during her senior year.
