The Rincon/University Rangers are taking a road trip to square off against the Tanque Verde Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
On Wednesday, Rincon/University earned a 12-8 win over Desert View.
Rincon/University got a massive performance out of Jianna Cota, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that Cota launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Amirah Bradley, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Cota wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Rincon/University kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Desert View only managed nine hits.
Meanwhile, everything went Tanque Verde's way against Marana on Monday as Tanque Verde made off with a 9-1 victory. Considering the Hawks have won four contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Claire Achilles made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Ella Haggard was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. Mikaela Jackson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
Tanque Verde's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 14.7 runs. As for Rincon/University, their record is now 4-6.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rincon/University hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .361. However, it's not like Tanque Verde struggles in that department as they've averaged .370. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Rincon/University's way against Tanque Verde in their previous matchup back in March of 2018, as Rincon/University made off with a 16-0 victory. Will Rincon/University repeat their success, or does Tanque Verde have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
