Lutheran unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a blow against the Cahokia Comanches on Friday, falling 38-7. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it six in a row.
A big part of Cahokia's win came down to the chemistry between Nigel Gooden and his top target Hartles Holman. Gooden threw for 291 yards and three TDs while completing 80% of his passes while Holman picked up 143 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Holman's longest reception was for an incredible 79 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Machai Henderson, who rushed for 67 yards and one score on only nine carries.
Coming up, Lutheran is headed away from home for the first time to face off against Hannibal at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cahokia, they will face off against Lift for Life Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,022 yards in their previous games.
