The Bernalillo Spartans will face off against the Valencia Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Bernalillo has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Bernalillo and Moriarty, and Bernalillo kept the tradition alive. Bernalillo sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 win over Moriarty on Saturday. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Pintos recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Uriel Castro, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Hernan Hernandez, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Bernalillo hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Moriarty struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Valencia duked it out with Taos on Friday. Valencia fell 8-5 to Taos.
Pryce Henry was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Lucas Apodaca was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Valencia's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Bernalillo, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Valencia's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bernalillo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. It's a different story for Valencia, though, as they've only averaged .250. Will they be able to contain Bernalillo's hitters?
Bernalillo skirted past Valencia 10-8 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Does Bernalillo have another victory up their sleeve, or will Valencia turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
