If the Powdersville Patriots were feeling good off their 53-24 takedown of the Southside Tigers last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Powdersville was the victim of a rough 49-26 defeat at the hands of Wren on Tuesday. Powdersville was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-9.
Despite the loss, Powdersville saw an underclassman step up: Makayla Assemian scored eight points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Assemian is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Amari Rambert, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Raina McGowens was her usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with two steals for Wren. McGowens hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Deyana Hayes, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Powdersville's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Wren, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-2.
Powdersville will head out on the road to square off against Palmetto at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Palmetto is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. As for Wren, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Belton-Honea Path at 6:00 p.m. Belton-Honea Path will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 166th, while Wren is ranked ninth).
