The Alhambra Bulldogs suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Saturday. They were beaten by Ygnacio Valley 89-56. While losing is never fun, Alhambra can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 362nd, while Ygnacio Valley is ranked 150th).
When it comes to explaining why Alhambra lost, one person who can't be blamed is Geo Alber. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Samuel Gillaspy, who scored 15 points.
Evan McKnight was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 16 rebounds for Ygnacio Valley. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McKnight has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Loyal Morris, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds.
Alhambra's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 9-9. As for Ygnacio Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Alhambra will take on Acalanes at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Acalanes is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak. As for Ygnacio Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against El Cerrito at 2:30 p.m. on Monday.
