Gallup extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 5-19. They lost 19-6 to the Aztec Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 two weeks ago.
Gallup saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Truitt Lewis, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
As for Aztec, their win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.9 runs over those games.
On Aztec's side, Hayden Eaton made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Eaton has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Cadin Anderson looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Aztec got a massive performance out of Cory Douglas, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave Douglas a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Christian Holmes, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Gallup will face off against rival Shiprock at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Aztec is set to challenge their familiar foe Kirtland Central at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
